Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

Thursday 24th August - All 10 seen - Cattle returned to Caesar's Camp

Youngster 222 was standing chewing his cud on the hill around ///deck.lawyer.cupcake at 17:05 this afternoon.   Cows 30, 33, 72, 220 and 940 were all happily grazing close by.  They were in and out of the thicket as they slowly descended the hill, munching as they went.

Older steers 20 and 35 were found grazing together deep in the thicket around ///nudge.supple.doctors fifteen minutes later.  They were both munching on the grass growing between the bracken bushes.

Steers 21 and 227 were found grazing together around ///shed.grove.football at 17:30.  They had found some longer grass and were happily eating.

I decided to go and spend some more time with the first group and found that cows 30, 72 and 940 had reached the bottom of the hill around ///hats.pupils.butterfly, where they discovered the fence into Reservoir No 5 was cut (photo below).  All three had gone through the hole and were grazing in the distance on the far side.  I made Grace at HIWWT aware, who kindly set out to come to site.  While waiting, I managed to do a temporary repair to the fence to prevent steers 33, 220 and 222 from joining them.  I also managed to call the three cows down to near the gate onto the main path, whose padlock was unlocked, allowing the gate to be opened.  When Grace arrived, we were able to get all three out and carry out a proper temporary repair to the fence.

Grace suggested that we should take the opportunity to return all ten cows to Caesar's Camp, which we duly did.

The cows were all good today.
