Thursday 24th August - All 10 seen - Cattle returned to Caesar's Camp

Youngster 222 was standing chewing his cud on the hill around ///deck.lawyer.cupcake at 17:05 this afternoon.   Cows 30, 33, 72, 220 and 940 were all happily grazing close by.  They were in and out of the thicket as they slowly descended the hill, munching as they went.

Older steers 20 and 35 were found grazing together deep in the thicket around ///nudge.supple.doctors fifteen minutes later.  They were both munching on the grass growing between the bracken bushes.

Steers 21 and 227 were found grazing together around ///shed.grove.football at 17:30.  They had found some longer grass and were happily eating.

I decided to go and spend some more time with the first group and found that cows 30, 72 and 940 had reached the bottom of the hill around ///hats.pupils.butterfly, where they discovered the fence into Reservoir No 5 was cut (photo below).  All three had gone through the hole and were grazing in the distance on the far side.  I made Grace at HIWWT aware, who kindly set out to come to site.  While waiting, I managed to do a temporary repair to the fence to prevent steers 33, 220 and 222 from joining them.  I also managed to call the three cows down to near the gate onto the main path, whose padlock was unlocked, allowing the gate to be opened.  When Grace arrived, we were able to get all three out and carry out a proper temporary repair to the fence.

Grace suggested that we should take the opportunity to return all ten cows to Caesar's Camp, which we duly did.

The cows were all good today.

    Wednesday 23rd August - All 19 seen - 10 Gelvert / 9 Caesar's

Earlier this morning I discovered that cows 214, 215, 217, 219, 228, 230, 234, 270 and 271 had escaped from Gelvert last night and were all back enjoying life on Caesar's Camp. They were all lying down, relaxing and chewing their cud in the area around ///bottle.rainy.tens at 10.30. Youngster 217 was slightly away from the others, lying down under the shade of the trees. All nine were fine. I made Harry at HIWWT aware that they were on Caesar's.

The same nine cows were happily munching on fresh grass in the area around ///dads.gave.dizzy at 17.45 this evening. They were all very relaxed and seemed to be enjoying the warm sunshine. Cow 215 decided to wander over and say hello and receive an ear rub while standing chewing her cud.

Had a nice walk through Caesar's Camp and into Gelvert, where I met cow 72 and youngster 222 munching on grass in the area around ///join.bliss.discussed at 18.45. Steer 227 came wandering along the path from a westerly direction to join them. Steers 20, 21 and 33 were all found a bit further along, munching on leaves in the thicket just off the main path. Steer 35 emerged from the thicket a bit further south of them and started to eat some longer grass.

Steer 30 was found eating deep in the thicket around ///conned.nasal.stunt at 19:10. I caught sight of him in the distance from the main path. Youngster 220 and older cow 940 were grazing together close by, around ///chap.office.evenly a short time later. As I emerged from the thicket, steer 33 had made his way to the path located north-east of where I had discovered the previous two, where he was happily munching on some grass.

The cows were all good tonight.

    Tuesday 22nd August - All 19 seen

Steer 20 and cow 940 were happily eating in the area around ///myths.served.fats at 17.20 this evening.  They were nice and relaxed.

The other seventeen were spread out in the area between the side of the fishing hut and the large fishing lake.  Cows 215, 217, 228, 230, 270 and 271 were all lying down at the side of the lake where they were relaxing and chewing their cud.   Several others looked as though they had just got up and were standing chewing their cud.  Cow 234 was lying down on the patch of the grass at the side of the fishing hut.  Cow 214 was munching on the grass beside her with steer 227 standing chewing his cud.   Youngster 222 was standing to the side of the wooden table at the fishing hut, but wandered over and said hello when I took a seat.

The cows began to slowly wander off in the direction where cows 20 and 940 were first found, grazing as they went.  After a short while, they went into the thicket where they continued to graze before emerging onto the path around ///cheater.converged.matter at 17:50.  They wandered along the path for a bit before disappearing into the thicket on the other side.

The cows were all good this evening.

    Sunday 20th August - Evening - All 19 seen

Still worried about the yearlings, I gave them a quick extra check this evening.  The good news is they were fine and back with other members of the herd 😀.

Yearling Idris (270) was lying down relaxing with cows 20, 33, 214, 217, 227 and 234 in the area around ///trucks.acted.jots at 17.55 this evening.  Steer 21 was close by, munching in the trees near the fence line.  Older cows 30, 72 and 940 were grazing a bit further along the path but soon wandered along.

Yearling Idaho (271) was happily grazing with youngsters 222 and 228 in the area around ///tend.soup.skidding at 18:30.  Older steer 35, British White 215 and youngsters 219, 220 and 230 were all grazing in the pasture to the east of them.

The cows were all good this evening.

Sunday 20th August - All 19 seen - fence good

Steer 21 was spotted grazing in the thicket in the area around ///tilt.chiefs.passion at 10:15 this morning.  Although by himself, he was fine, moving around freely and munching away happily.

A mixed group of twelve cows were all found in the area around ///detail.basics.closer at 10:35.  Youngster 230 was munching on leaves in the trees, with the others munching on grass in the sunshine.  The four British Whites soon lay down together, relaxing and chewing their cud.  Youngster 230 also lay down in the trees.  The others either stood and chewed their cud or continued to graze.  Cows 72, 222, and 940 wandered away from the others and started to eat leaves from the trees at the top of the steep hill down the side of the site.  The Beacon Hill Road fence was intact today.

Steer 21 was still grazing away happily close to the spot he was originally found at 11:00.

Yearlings 270 and 271 were found by themselves around ///cars.sport.relieves at 11:10.  They were busy eating grass before crossing over and grazing on the longer grass at the side of the main path.  Again, a search of the surrounding area didn't find any other cows.  I reluctantly left them.

The group of twelve cows had all descended the hill and were all standing in the trees around ///wider.brownish.sleeper at noon.   They had been joined by the missing steers 20, 35, 217 and 228.   Older steer 21 turned up at 12:10 and went straight under the cover of the trees.  The cows slowly started coming out of the trees and started grazing in the surrounding area, heading in an easterly direction, before I said goodbye to them at 12:40.

The cows were all good today.  It was unusual for steer 21 to be grazing by himself.  And very odd that the two yearlings were found grazing by themselves.  I really hope they find their way back to the rest of the herd soon.

Steer 227 and yearling 271 were initially found grazing together in amongst the bracken, under the trees in the area around ///gong.circles.fight.  Older steers 21 and 33 were found even deeper down into the thicket around ///inert.shrug.amuse.   Cow 21 was happily munching on holly leaves.

Cows 20, 72, 30, 35, 219 and 940 were all munching on grass, leaves and blackberries in the area around ///force.generals.bibs at 11.20.  They were joined by steers 227 and 271 who had cut through the trees to join them.  They were all happy and very relaxed.

I returned to the first group to find a mixed group of nine cows lying down, relaxing and chewing their cud.  Older steers 21 and 33 had joined the initial group.  Youngster 217 and yearling 270 were still up and about, munching on the lush green grass.
The cows were all good today.   The Beacon Hill Road fence was also good.

    Tracking Collar Locations

Hi all, You can now see the location of the collar being worn by 3 of the cattle as well as any other animals wearing them within 20Km of your location. Click the link here: https://grazingmap.nofence.no You must allow the site to access your location for it to work. This will hopefully save you a bit of time hunting for them! Let me know if this is working and has helped or not. Thanks, Jack

    Thursday 17th August - All 19 seen

Youngsters 214, 215, 217, 219, 222, 227, 228 and 230 plus yearlings 270 and 271 were all busy munching on fresh grass at the side of Bourley Lane in the area around ///facelift.prank.cook at 17:00 this afternoon.   They were all happy and very relaxed.

Cows 30, 72, 214 and 220 were all found grazing in swampy land deep in the thicket around ///sailors.game.sway at 17:30.  They were all busy eating leaves from the trees.  Steer 35 was spotted in the thicket a bit further along around ///grad.plant.sticking a short time later.  He was by himself but seemed happy enough.

Most of the cows I'd already found gathered in the area around ///contents.chips.grad where they continued to graze.   This included cows 214 and 220 who had come out of the thicket with their muddy feet.  They all then set off, following the path in a southerly direction, grazing on the grass at the side as they went.   A few climbed down to the pasture beside the path, where they were enjoying the longer grass as they wandered.

Returning to the thicket in the area around ///bond.dash.snooping I found cows 20, 33 and 940 all spread out munching on leaves and long grass.  They were all grazing in swampy land, so I couldn't get too close to them, but they all looked good.  Finally, spotted steer 21 in some really tall thicket close by at 18:30.  The tips of his horns gave him away.  He, too, was fine.  Older cows 30 and 72 were still grazing near this group and had been joined by youngster 230.

The cows were all good today.
