Emergency Procedure

If you need to report an emergency to us such as injured or escaped livestock or damaged infrastructure please follow this procedure:

  1. Call the office on 01256 381190.
  2. If no one answers, wait for the answering message which will detail the name and mobile number of the member of staff who is currently on call.
  3. Phone the on-call member of staff who will then respond accordingly.

NOTES:

  • Please do not phone a member of staff directly unless you know they are on-call.

  • If you are unsure if a particular situation qualifies as an emergency then please phone the on-call member of staff anyway so that they can make the decision on how to proceed.

  • Most importantly of all – please do not report injuries or sick animals via the blog alone – always call the emergency on-call contact.

    Thank you!

    Friday 30th - Evening

The Gelvert trio and the eight yearlings that returned from Caesar’s earlier today were all lying down chewing the cud at ///gloves.invest.radiates at 17:30.

The seven older cows plus the other two yearlings were seen eating grass and leaves at or around ///brick.joke.vowed at 18:00.

    Have a good weekend.

Friday - 11 escapees returned to Gelvert, not seen the others

I'm sure they will be back out again soon.

    Thursday, 29 July 2021

    Thursday 29th - Evening

The seven older cows were stood at the side of the lake at ///skill.stylist.carriage at 18:15 chewing the cud.   The two yearlings 213 and 235 were beside them wandering around munching.   There were a number of flies around the lump on 235’s belly but they didn’t seem to be bothering her too much with her giving the occasional “kick” to move them on.   I didn’t get a decent photo.

The Gelvert trio and the eight yearlings were on the top of Sandy Hill at ///skyrocket.verifying.denoting at 19:05.  They were all busy munching grass.  They were all fine.

    Thursday 29th July. Nine found.

Not exactly sure who is where at the moment, but I found the older seven plus 213 and 235 on Gelvert. Couldn’t get a really good look at 235’s  belly but mud definitely sticking to something lumpy there. No 33 was wheezing whilst basking in the sun!

    232 yearling removed

One of the Hereford cross Sussex yearlings number 232 has been removed for company somewhere else.

    Tuesday, 27 July 2021

    Tuesday

10 cows found on Gelvert, 11 found on Caesars. I gave the Gelvert trio a talking to about their bad influence on the yearlings but they just stared at me. Goldilocks (235) potentially has some sores on her belly.

Had some very nosy attempts to sniff out the nuts today:

    Monday 26th - Evening

Found seven older cows plus three yearlings (213, 232, 235) at approx. 18:30 grazing at the side of the lake at ///forced.crunching.unicorns.  They were all fine and wandered off towards Bourley Road.

The Gelvert three plus eight yearlings (I believe the numbers were 217, 219, 220, 221, 222, 226, 228 and 230) have jumped back to Caesars again.   They were all seen at approx. 19:05 at ///milky.unite.retract.   The yearlings were all happily munching.   The Gelvert three were starting to head up the hill.

0830 Mon 26th July Nine seen

We found a mixed group of 9 (020, 021, 033, 035, 072, 940, 213, 232, 235) on Gelvert at approx ///sleepers.class.weeded. Took nice photos of 940 and 072 rubbing their heads together. They seemed happy apart from the flies. No sight or sound of the others. Stay Safe, Marina & Des

Oldies and youngsters - late morning on Saturday

Found 7 oldies on the heath above the empty reservoir, and 11 youngsters hiding under trees at the bottom of the slope below the empty reservoir.  Both groups were lying down looking incredibly relaxed and not bothered about a thing!

    Saturday 24th - 12:15

The Gelvert three were resting under the trees, chewing the cud, at ///beans.wolves.indicates.  The seven "older" cows were grazing at ///prettiest.leap.display.   They were all fine.   Couldn't find any of the yearlings despite a good walk around the site.

Friday - all cattle returned to Gelvert

All the cows have been sprayed for flies and are looking very perky today! Got the little Shetlands and Gelvert trio back where they belong

    Wednesday, 21 July 2021

Wednesday 21st July. Eleven found - mixed ages.

All seven of the older ones found, plus 213, 230, 232 and 235. They were all very hot and fly plagued, under trees near the lakes. Looked all around that area for the others but couldn’t find them and it got too hot for me!

    Found a group of youngsters at behind.plotter.cape this evening.  All were greedily grazing and a couple were slightly excited when I tried to check tags - 235, 213, 228, 226, 225, 217, 232, 221, 222 and 219.

    Under the trees

Happened upon all ten sheltering under trees close to the camping field (I5) at around 1230 today while out for a walk. They all appeared well and contented.

Ten cattle have been moved from Caesars Camp to Gelvert to keep them out of the way of filming and bracken spraying over the next few weeks.
